Do you think foetus gender test kits will lead to a rise in abortions?

A new test to reveal the gender of a fetus in early pregnancy has sparked a row over whether it will lead to sex-selection abortions.

The American-designed IntelliGender test kit, which can be used from eight weeks after conception, went on sale in Australia last month. Its Australian distributor hopes to launch it in New Zealand within a fortnight.

Anti-abortion group Voice for Life echoes says abortions for sex selection were a problem overseas and the test would facilitate this in New Zealand.

We talk about the 'rights' of parents to choose this and that - where are the rights for un-born children?

So let me get this straight: We're talking about abortion in the context of "gender"? Now haven't we been told that abortion isn't murder? Yet terminating" something that has every physical feature of being human: It is in the womb of a human, has it's own blood type, heart beat, brain waves, DNA, movement, and now gender! Hold on, Somebody isn't being honest here.

I am from the USA. I purchased two of these Intelligender tests a year ago when I was pregnant. I previously had a son in 2006 and really wanted a girl. Both of my test results were boy and I gave birth to a beautiful baby girl on November 30th, 2008. This test is a waste of money. I was depressed for weeks due to the results of this test. Do not buy it and do not selectively abort your baby should this test tell you the opposite gender that you desire. When I spoke with the company about my incorrect test results they apologized that the test had been wrong for me and stated their "Lab" testing results. Biggest waste of time and money.
