The city of Wanganui should be officially renamed 'Whanganui', the New Zealand Geographic Board has ruled.

If it's a spelling mistake why not correct it? Or is this one of those things that is supposed to be "racially charged" or an example of "political correctness gone mad"?

No. I'm from Wanganui and we've been through this debate so many times. And guess what? The name remains the same. The general populations' spelling skills are going further downhill every day so no one's going to notice the difference soon anyway!

Why? Few people in NZ can spell. 'Wh' is an English introduced letter pair and no one pronounces the 'h.' Just another thing for kids to learn. Total rubbish. Good on you Laws, hang in there.
