Should prostitution be made illegal again?

11:51 AM Thursday Feb 7, 2008

The only winners from the Prostitution Reform Act 2003 are men, says the National Council of Women of New Zealand. Council national president Elizabeth Bang made the comment in light of sentences passed down to men convicted of having sex with girls under the age of 18.

She was alarmed at how light some of the sentences were.

The council supported the law change in order to validate and protect human rights - not to condone prostitution, she said.

Yes. This was another unwanted law pa**ed by Labour and it's cronies. The majority of the people of NZ were against it.

Absolutely not. One of the most damaging things to a person's character is not only what they do, but how society makes them feel about it. These girls need the compa**ion and protection of the law.

Of course not. You may not agree with it as a profession, but prostitution is going to happen whether it is legal or not (if you don't believe me have a look at the history). Having it legal provides protection for the workers. It allows them to work in clean, safe and monitored premises. It is very sad that so many young girls are out on the street. I believe street prostitution is still illegal (it is not a licensed premises) and therefore making prostitution illegal would not stop this problem. It comes down to education and the community keeping a close eye on what is going on.
