Will you stick with Telecom?

3:36 PM Wednesday Jan 16, 2008

Since taking over Telecom 18 months ago, chief executive Paul Reynolds has led the charge to make the company pilloried for anti-competitive practices more customer focused.

Telecom advertising has been as pervasive as ever but it had kept a low corporate profile since the Telecommunications Act 2006 when an overwhelming majority of MPs came down on Telecom.

I will 'ditch' Telecom as soon as I can. They have had my business for 27 years, I think it is about time someone else had a turn. And during that time their service has continued to be poor. I will be very, very happy, and relieved to be rid of Telecom.

NO. Happy days are here again but only next year. They say time flies. Right?

Part of the article is of some possible concern. "Prices to be paid by internet and phone companies to use Telecom's broadband service without phone-line rental range from $47. 28 for urban users to $84. 62 for rural users. " Naturally that cost is going to be forwarded to the end user. Me. Why on earth would I want to pay $47. 28 to have Naked DSL when i can pay $40 to have a landline?

Seems to me that the cost is akin to 'protection money' to keep your hands clean of any dealings with Telecom. Unless the $47. 28 is a one off disconnection fee or something, then I do not see myself being particularly tempted to take up an offer to charge me more for not providing a service.
