Your Views on the smacking conviction

The MP behind the anti-smacking legislation, Sue Bradford, says a conviction under the controversial law shows it is working well.

A 33-year-old Masterton man was sentenced to nine months' supervision including counselling after pleading guilty to assaulting the boy by grabbing him by the shoulder and smacking him three times with an open hand.

Yes the anti smacking law is working very well. It's exactly what the government wanted - to convict normal everyday parents for disciplining their unruly children in the good old fashioned way. Let's sit back and watch more of these good mums and dads get convicted. Let's also sit back and watch how the kids of today turn out as future 'adults' in a society where there are no rules or boundaries or consequences for bad behaviour! Let's sit back and watch these smug kids tell their parents and teachers where to go!Watch this space!

I do not condone any violence towards children but.of course it's working if you are looking at the average parent been told off for smacking the bum. Of course it's not working when babies and small children are still dying from been beaten to death. How many babies have been killed since the law's inception? Too many - that is what I say. This Government's weak- minded law is not doing what it supposed to be doing and that is stopping kids from been killed. The people that beat their kids to death don't listen to the laws or most probably don't even know they exist and even if they did none of them care and they will do what they want. They should be putting parents who kill their children through abuse in jail for life and nothing less. I am afraid that would still not stop it as most of the illiterate sacks out there that do it wouldn't give a crap - Jail would just be another free ride . I give up on this God- forsaken country and its pitiful laws and namby- pamby PC we love you all crap.
