Fireworks should have been banned years ago. Guy Fawkes was a terrorist and terrorism has caused heartache all around the world. So why is it ok to celebrate an act of terrorism on November 5th- or any time. Organized displays are the best way to go but not celebrating Guy Fawkes. Maybe Waitangi Day or something really worth celebrating.

To Jo Marshall: as an English celebration, I don't believe Guy Fawkes day honours Guy Fawkes. It celebrates his execution and the foiling of his "gun powder plot". I always thought it was weird NZ still celebrates this day (it was essentially an anti-catholic festival as much as anything else), but I'm not strongly against the sale of fireworks to the public.
