Why don't we cut the police a bit of slack? If the woman had been dead for six days, then the smell would have ensured that police knew that she was in the boot - in which case they would have wanted to ensure that they covered every possibility in opening the car and determining who was responsible for her death.

I think it's really too soon to tell regarding the New Zealand police, but regarding the Us police, I am very surprised that the news regarding the possibility of the father's being here in California was not printed in newspapers in California or on CNN before yesterday, whereas the news hit the New Zealand and Australia news channels by Monday at the latest, and was on the BBC on Tuesday. Since this investigation apparently involves finding the father in California, the news should have hit here much sooner.

This story is an embarra**ment and your reporter and editors should be looking for new careers!. How more desperately can you 'sex up' an already over-covered and media-saturated story?

Would you prefer the headline 'killer goes free as police rush so as to avoid pathetic stories in the Herald about them taking too long in an investigation'? Can you give previous examples to show that this is a slow/poor job?. I very much doubt it. Leave them to do their job thanks, and do us all a favour!
