It may be set in Auckland, but the Big Day Out is a truly national event, with fans traversing the length and breadth of the country to make the day-long festival.
InterCity Coachlines has announced it will put on an additional 10 bus services from around the North Island to meet Big Day Out demand.
The extra services will see 500 seats open up on routes to Auckland, on Thursday and Friday this week.
InterCity Group Limited sales and marketing manager Daniel Rode said the increased demand was quite remarkable, and clearly driven by the major music event.
Once in Auckland, there will be several bus and train services running to Mt Smart Stadium in Penrose.
A continuous bus service will run from outside Real Groovy on Queen St between the hours of 9am and 2pm. A return service will run from Gate B at Mt Smart Stadium to Wellesley St, from 9.30pm, at a cost of $5 each way.
Regular train services will run from around Auckland to Penrose station, approximately 10 minutes walk from the concert venue.
Several roads surrounding Mt Smart Stadium will be cordoned off throughout the event's duration, including Beasley Ave, Maurice Rd and O'Rourke Rd.
Gates open at 10am this Friday and the final acts are set to finish at 11.45pm.
