The star that is Sam Sinclair continues to shine bright.

The former Rotorua netballer has been named in a 16-player Silver Ferns squad to play in a quad series against South Africa, Australia and England at the end of this month.

A standout season for the Waikato-BOP Magic in the ANZ Premiership earned Sinclair a place in the Silver Ferns trials last week in Auckland.

She made her Silver Ferns debut earlier this year, on the tour of South Africa and England, but that didn't make her latest success any less exciting.

"It's a relief I suppose, it was a pretty tight selection - I would've hated to be a selector this year.

"I think everyone stepped up, there wasn't anyone who stood out for the wrong reasons, everyone was performing," Sinclair said.

The trials finished last Friday and the players found out whether they had made the squad yesterday.

"It was a pretty anxious time, but I'm totally overjoyed. I spent the weekend in Rotorua with the fam and watched my sister play a bit of netball, just kept myself busy."

She said the fact there were so many strong candidates in the trials can only be good for the team going forward.

"I think the squad they've selected is pretty strong and whoever gets on court will make a difference and do their job well. It looks really good for New Zealand netball at the moment.

"I'm just in the team for the quad series and then they'll rename a team for the Constellation Cup, that's the next one I'll be putting my hand up for.

"If I get on court, even just at trainings, it's about putting your hand up and proving to the coaches that you're capable of being in that position and stepping up against the big guns like Australia.

"I'm really excited for that opportunity," she said.

The squad features three new faces including NZ Under-21 shooter Monica Falkner, Te Wananga o Raukawa Pulse midcourter Whitney Souness and Silvermoon Tactix defender Temalisi Fakahokotau who makes her return to the national programme after playing two tests in 2014.

The squad has a combined total of 420 test caps, while the development squad features three players from the victorious NZ Under-21 team, as well as the return of Ameliaranne Ekenasio following the birth of her first child.

Silver Ferns coach Janine Southby said she was impressed with the performances at trials, particularly the young players coming through.

"This is a crucial time for us as we count down to the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games in April.

"Our upcoming matches against Australia, South Africa and England will provide further opportunities for us to build combinations and expose players to the intensity of test match netball.

"There is some exciting, young talent coming through and we've seen them stand up and consistently deliver under pressure in the ANZ Premiership and at Netball World Youth Cup. Now we'll get the opportunity to test them on the international stage," Southby said.

The Silver Ferns will open their international season in Brisbane on August 26 against South Africa's SPAR Proteas in the Netball Quad Series.
