A man who was kidnapped and had his ear hacked off has given several different accounts of what happened during the night of horror.
The 26-year-old was found by farm workers at Mangateparu, near Morrinsville, on Saturday morning with his hands bound tightly and blood pouring from his wound.
He is recovering in Waikato Hospital but had requested that no information, including his condition, be released to the public.
The man has said he was taken from his Hamilton home, abducted from a bar in the city, and that he "cannot remember" what happened to him on Friday night.
Police have said money did not appear to be a factor in the kidnapping. Detective Sergeant Peter Hikaka, of Hamilton, said the man was abducted early on Saturday morning.
"We are still trying to establish what happened that night and really do need anyone who saw anything suspicious to come forward and contact us, even if it is anonymously."
He said there was a large period of time between about 1 am and 6 am unaccounted for.
Police were keen to hear from anyone in the Mangateparu area between 5 and 6 am on Saturday, when the man alleged his ear was hacked off after he was beaten. Patrick Gower
