Questionnaires will be sent to the 1270 New Zealand military personnel who served in the Gulf War and the Balkans to find if any have been affected by the use of depleted uranium shells.
Minister of Defence Mark Burton said the New Zealand investigation, which follows similar inquiries by European countries and the US, is now "proceeding with some urgency."
