Based on Ben Elton and his wife's attempts to produce offspring, as recounted in every interview during his recent promotional visit.
Sam (Hugh Laurie) and Lucy (Joely Richardson) are a smart, successful professional couple who have everything they want — apart from a baby.
Despite a carefully planned and energetic production schedule, nothing happens, so they enter an IVF programme. Off-screen Sam pours his life story into a screenplay which includes conversations with Lucy and entries from her diary.
His friends at the BBC love the script. So how does Sam tell Lucy that he has transformed their private grief into mass entertainment?
Pretty much like Elton has. The co-writer of Blackadder and Mr Bean with Richard Curtis saw his first film as a director as a chance to get even with Curtis for Four Weddings and a Funeral and Notting Hill.
Some people have put Elton's effort on their lists of the 10 Worst Films of the Year. Others have elevated it to the All-time list.
