The Children's Commissioner says his office will investigate the bashing of two-year-old Sade Trembath.
The toddler's grandmother Patricia Bissett is serving 5 years in jail for injuring Sade, who is now brain damaged for life.
Commissioner Roger McClay says his office and the Department of Child, Youth and Family Services will look into why the toddler was placed in her grandmother's care.
He says Sade Trembath deserves to have her case investigated.
It was alleged in court that social workers from Child, Youth and Family ignored pleas from Bissett that she could not cope with the child, after she was placed in her care in May.
