Situation:

A southwest flow covers the country. The flow turns northwest over southern and central New Zealand today as a front approaches from the Tasman Sea. The front crosses southern New Zealand on Sunday and the remainder of the country on Monday, followed by a ridge of high pressure.

Forecast:

Saturday: Northeast 10 knots easing to variable 5 knots early morning. Northeast 15 knots developing early afternoon, rising to 20 knots east of Wairoa to Cape Kidnappers late afternoon. Becoming northwest 10 knots everywhere in the evening. Sea becoming moderate in the east for a time late afternoon and early evening. Fine weather.

Outlook:

Outlook until midnight Tuesday: Sunday: Northerly 15 knots. Fine. Monday: Rising to northwest 20 knots late morning, changing southerly 25 knots in the afternoon. Rain developing with southerly change, followed by showers. Tuesday: Southerly easing to 15 knots. Showers clearing.

Swell:

Swell forecast to midnight Tuesday: East of Cape Kiddnappers to Wairoa: Southerly 1.5 metres, rising to 2 metres this evening, easing to 1.5 metres Sunday and to 1 metre Monday morning, then rising to 2 metres later Monday and to 2.5 metres for a time Tuesday. Elsewhere: Southeast half a metre rising to 1 metre late Monday.
