A pink and purple garden makeover by Maggie's Garden Show has infuriated a neighbour. Barbara Parker complained to Television New Zealand after the show put up a purple fence next to her Mission Bay property as part of a neighbour's garden facelift.
The makeover, yet to screen on television, also features hot pink panels along the inside of the fence and large purple pots.
"It's a constant source of irritation every time I drive past it," said Mrs Parker, an Auckland University law student.
"I've got nothing against purple, but it just doesn't go with the environment."
Mrs Parker's house shares a cross-leased property with two others, including the house that received the garden facelift on September 26. The purple fence runs alongside a driveway shared by the residents.
Mrs Parker believes the fence will reduce the value of her $360,000 property and she is angry that the garden show's staff failed to consult her before building it.
"I don't want to be an old nag, but I've got a fair bit invested here and I'm interested in conserving its value."
Mrs Parker has accused TVNZ of trespassing and has also complained to the Broadcasting Standards Authority. She is considering an arbitration hearing if the matter cannot be resolved.
The recipient of the garden makeover is delighted with her purple fence. Carol Bradley said she had no plans to repaint it, despite Mrs Parker's reaction.
Maggie's Garden Show producer Terry Sampson said the purple fence was at the "cutting edge" of trends and had been pre-approved by Carol Bradley.
"This is a neighbourhood dispute between Barbara Parker and the other owner ... We are not even involved with this."
