Aside from the thousands birthday messages from fans - Lorde's birthday was spent in much the same way as anyone else - at work.
The singer turned 19 on Saturday whilst in America with her mother Sonja Yelich, and posted a note on Twitter saying it had been a "studio birthday", hinting at her new album.
She was unable to celebrate with younger brother Angelo, who turned 14 the same day.
Her mother Sonja posted a heartfelt note on Instagram expressing love and admiration for her daughter, who has achieved so much, yet stays humble.
The message describes how "ridiculously proud" she is and signs off "Happy Birthday E."
The Royals singer later re-tweeted her message, alongside the caption: "me in my fave hat. Love you mum."
Debuting a much shorter sleeker hairstyle last week, Lorde spent the lead up to her nineteenth hanging with an elite crowd at the prestigious CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund awards in New York.
She was pictured with the likes of model Karlie Kloss, actress Amanda Seyfried and designers Diane von Furstenberg and Riccardo Tisci.
The Magnets singer was clearly in a playful mood as she took selfies with Seyfried and poked her tongue out for photographers.
Lorde looked stylish and confident with her new do, which she paired with a black lace-trimmed dress over satin trousers.
The singer flew to New York last Sunday, missing the Rugby World Cup final, but later showed her support for the boys in black on Twitter, saying she was "pretty proud".
