Scott Bradlee and troupe of performers coming to Auckland on back of YouTube success.
Lorde's Royals has had plenty of cover versions - there's been Bruce Springsteen and a lot of people on YouTube. Now a sad baritone clown named Puddles will bring the song back to the city of its birth with retro covers act Postmodern Jukebox.
They, too, got their start on YouTube.
The live show will also include a doo-wop version of Miley Cyrus' We Can't Stop and a vintage cabaret take on Taylor Swift's Blank Space - songs from Scott Bradlee and his musicians and singers that have been viewed millions of times on YouTube.
The American is bringing his group of performers, plus a tap dancer, to New Zealand this month.
Bradlee began his career as a jazz musician playing at cocktail bars and weddings.
"I wasn't really having people listen, they just treated the whole thing as background," he said.
Once he found YouTube he was excited by how passionate people were about sharing diverse music.
Bradlee's first video was a ragtime medley of 1980s pop hits. When English author Neil Gaiman tweeted it to his millions of followers, more people saw Bradlee's video in a week than had seen him play in his life.
"I put it up there and it went viral. It was my first taste of what it meant to have a viral video and from there I have never really looked back," Bradlee said. "If you have trouble in the music industry sometimes you just have to invent a whole new industry."
Bradlee's videos are watched millions of times over, with the Miley Cyrus cover reaching more than 13 million views.
He posts one new video a week on the Postmodern Jukebox YouTube channel and is currently rolling out clips to accompany songs from his new album, Swipe Right for Vintage.
