It was the Cinderella interview that was edited to make Cate Blanchett look like the wicked step mother she's been cast to play.
But as the full clip of journalist Jonathan Hyla and Oscar winner Cate's one-on-one for Network Ten's The Project emerged on Thursday, instead of toe-curling awkwardness it revealed a very flirty discourse.
Clearly in the mood for a lively sparring session it was Cate, 45, who veered widely off topic, teasingly baiting the handsome journalist as she joked that the press junket was 'like speed dating only slower'.
Leading him down the garden path the flirty Blue Jasmine star responded to his suggestion of bringing a six pack of beer to the interview, instead saying she drank a potato vodka from Devon - actually Black Cow vodka from Dorset.
'If you want the sex to be good that's the vodka, the beer's just not going to cut it,' she dead panned.
Not missing a beat the fun-loving mother-of-four and wife of Andrew Upton then declared: 'you could go to Devon and get me if you really loved me.'
Continuing her merry dance Cate delivered her lines like the professional she is with her comments eliciting laughter from around the studio.
Playing his part with equal joie de vivre Hyla gaily responded to Cate's vodka request saying: 'I do love you!'
While she changed up the pace again, continuing the ruse: 'This is a family movie, what are we talking about?'
Keeping pace Hyla shot back: 'Yeah but you just told me you have to drunk and drink vodka before you ever consider sleeping with me!'
'I can't talk about sexual positions when we're here talking about Cinderella,' Cate continued with a grin.
By the time the jovial interview came to a close - with a high-five salute - it's clear the actress has been in charge of the fun and that's when she makes her final, cutting remark to Hyla when he asks her about putting her cat on a leash in the film.
'That's your question? That's your f***ing question?' she says, while laughing.
After the segment went to air, Hyla took to Twitter to sing the actress' praises.
'Thanks to my new favorite person Cate Blanchett for what might have been the best worst interview...' he wrote.
A representative from The Project told Daily Mail Australia they were also pleased with the way the interview was conducted.
'We were delighted to learn that Hyla and Cate Blanchett share the same wicked sense of humour.
'It is one of the funniest interviews we have ever done. There was much laughter throughout the interview, and too much content to air in our allowed time.'
