Hollywood actor Chris Pine was celebrating the end of filming with a star-studded cast at a Methven pub before being nabbed by a routine drink-driving operation.
The actor, who found fame after playing Captain James T Kirk in Star Trek, will appear in Ashburton District Court on Monday after he was allegedly found driving with an excess blood alcohol limit by police near Methven early on Saturday.
Canterbury police confirmed a 33-year-old American man was stopped during a routine drink-drive operation.
Pine was staying in Methven while filming he final stages of his latest film Z for Zachariah at Washpen Falls, near Windwhistle.
It is understood The Wolf of Wall Street's Margot Robbie and Oscar nominee Chiwetel Ejiofor, star of 12 Years A Slave, were also in the area.
Blue Pub Methven manager Casey Crawford said 70 cast, crew and local volunteers had hired out the pub to celebrate the end of filming on February 28 with the party ending about 3am on March 1 - the morning Pine was caught drink driving.
"Chris Pine arrived here and had his supermodel girlfriend (Iris Bjork Johannesdottir) with him and he spent most of his time with her, she flew in that day someone told me,'' Mr Crawford said.
He said Mr Pine and other cast and crew were "subdued'' throughout the night, and he even took time to take photos with staff.
"You can see the photos behind the bar with our staff and he looked fine, I only ever saw him drinking tap beer and his partner she was just drinking sav wine.''
He said there were designated drink drivers for those attending the wrap party, so he was surprised Pine had decided to drive.
Police said they would not comment further as the case was now before the court.
Pine was born in California, and comes from a showbusiness family.
