Enaam Ahmed has claimed victory in the short Sunday morning Toyota Racing Series race at Hampton Downs but series leader Richard Verschoor has extended his championship lead.
The Dutch Red Bull driver bagged a comfortable second place to open up an 80-point lead in the series from Australian Thomas Randle.
Pedro Piquet was third with Marcus Armstrong in fourth - the first of the New Zealanders.
Ahmed, who turns 17 next week, led from start to finish in claiming his first win of the season. The Englishman took advantage of the reverse top six grid format set by yesterday's opening race of the weekend and led a bit of a precession at the front of the field. Not wanting to risk another big haul of points Verchoor was happy to maintain a healthy gap and cruise to another podium finish.
Piquet held off an initial challenge from teammate Armstrong before the latter conceded and settled for a nice collection of points to go with his race win a day earlier.
Piquet does move to within five points of Randle's second spot on the championship ladder.
Local driver Taylor Cockerton improved on a lowly grid position to finish ninth while fellow Kiwi Brendon Leitch had trouble in the early laps and ended up a disappointing 16th.
The Sunday feature race gets underway at 3.05pm with the winner taking home the NZ Motor Cup.
