We all love a good underdog story. Especially when the little pup turns out to have big, sharp teeth.
Mazda's Le Mans wannabe 787B was one of these. The Europeans laughed at it, the haters said it would never finish the tough 24-hour test. And it won, becoming the only Japanese car to win that iconic race.

We were fortunate enough to get within drooling distance of one at Mazda's museum in Hiroshima last year during our Tokyo Motor Show trip - a deeply religious experience, to say the least.
Not only was the 787B a beautiful machine, its four-rotor at full noise is an incredible-sounding engine (join Johnny Herbert for a hi-def lap below).
Equally stunning - although not quite as famous or successful - was its predecessor, the 767B - the underdog before it was housetrained, essentially.
Its four-rotor makes 470kW and 510Nm, pushing it all through a five-speed gearbox.
So when we can across this awesome video of one Maximillian Werner pushing a 767B around Spa Francochamps at the Spa Classic in May this year, we just had to share.
The event sees those lucky enough to have classic race machines get them out on the legendary circuit and let them do what they were built to do.
So thanks to Maximillian Werner for ranging this rare and awesome machine for us all to enjoy.
