Call Minder, who will be ridden by Michael Walker in the Winter Cup Trial at New Plymouth on Saturday, excelled in training at Matamata yesterday.
On a fast all-weather track, Call Minder dashed over 1000m in 1:1, the final 600 in an attractive 36.2. Classic Fortune also showed speed, taking 1:20.2 for 1200, the 600 in 38.4.
On a good plough, Avonella and Bizzie Lizzie ran a good trial for Ellerslie on Saturday, covering 1200m in 1:15.2, the 1000 in 1:1.2 and 600 in 36.8.
Our Trio ran a sound 1000m in 1:4.5, the 600 in 38.6. Whitecollar Junkie did similar work in 1:4.5 and 38.2.
On an easy course proper, 26m out, Dundeal shaded Tudor Bay after 1200m in 1:21.2, the 600 in 40.8.
Cruise Star showed his fitness for Ellerslie with a smart workout on a good plough at Takanini. Accompanied by The Mandrake, he dashed 1000m in 1:1.8, the 600 in 37.9.
Last-start winner Rotang ran 1000m in 1:2.7, the 600 strongly in 37.5. Ardmore covered the same ground in 1:4.2 and 37.
Master Pom trailed Classic Pom by several lengths in the early stages of 1200m but ran on well to finish on terms in 1:19.4, the 600 in 38.8.
In-form The Flynt, preparing for the Winter Cup Trial at New Plymouth, worked well on a deep plough at Cambridge to cut out 1000m with Just Rimu in 1:6.5. Both were going strongly at the finish.
Denholm, who may race at Te Rapa on Saturday week, ran 1000m evenly with Areesea in 1:6.6, the 800 in 52.2. My Happiness hit out well over 1000 in 1:7, the 600 in 40.
Jadestone returned 1:7 for 1000m, the 600 in 40.2. His Destiny went 1200, quickening for the last 800 in 54.
Abbey Grace looked in good order for Ellerslie when galloping 800m in 52.2 on the bark track at Pukekohe. She came from the 600 in 38.7.
Gencay and Meteorite covered 1000m on the No 1 grass in 1:4, the 800 in 54.4 and 600 in 39.7. Tsar Peerior looked fit when sprinting 800 in 51.1, the 600 in 38.4.
In-form Toppy showed he had trained on well when galloping 1000m on a good plough at Te Awamutu in 1:3.1, the 600 in 37.1. Stablemate Judette went 1000 keenly in 1:4.5, the 600 in 39.
Stedd ran 1000m in 1:6.4, the quickest section the last 600 in 37.1. Charlie Chase cut out 1000 in 1:4.7, the 600 in 39.4. Sky Cove did similar work in 1:4.8 and 38.
Nudge and Tank Of Ice galloped impressively at Te Aroha, taking 54.3 for 800m on the No 2 grass and 39.1 from the 600. Lilydane and Forastrike recorded identical times.
Stablemates Country Fair and Country Squire worked soundly on a good No 2 grass at Te Rapa.
Country Fair strode over 1200m in 1:12.7, the 600 in 36.6. Country Squire took 1:13.2 and 36.8.
Christaline ran 1000m smartly in 1:1.6, the 600 in 36. Heiss sprinted 600 in 36.2.
On a deep and testing sand at Avondale, Sir Albert dawdled early over 1000m in 1:11.4 but cut out the final 600 more seriously in 38.5. True Son ran 800m in 55.9, the 600 in 41.1.
On the outside of the course proper, which had the sting out of it, Mick Bailey and Lord Penn were impressive over 1400m in 1:29.4, the 600 full of running in 37.9.
On a firm No 1 grass, Miss Merc was firmly held early over 1000m in 1:2.6 and was given more rein from the 600 in 34.7.
