Holden New Zealand has just launched a high performance Trax compact SUV that it hopes will make a dent in our most popular segment.
Initially launched with two 1.8-litre petrol models last year, the company has added a 1.4-litre turbo petrol at the cost of $36,990. It also specced it up with new 18in alloys and a sunroof.
Hyundai's ix35 dominates the compact SUV segment with twice as many sales than its nearest competition but the second spot is the most fought over. Currently sitting in that spot is Suzuki's new S-Cross, with Mitsubishi's ASX taking third spot and the Trax in fourth.

Holden NZ is hoping the vehicle will bring new buyers and push it to second place.
Holden New Zealand Managing Director, Jeff Murray said the improvements on 2015 Trax have built on the success and feedback received on the current Trax and provides an additional option to customers.
"The Trax generated some great traction in the New Zealand market when launched last year and brought a Holden small SUV to customers for the very first time. We are committed to building on the early successes of Trax and we'll continue to respond to customers' needs," Said Mr Murray.
"With the introduction of the Trax 1.4 iTi engine and added features in 2015, we are confident that this car will appeal to even more people, especially given the great technology and features available.
The Trax is now available in eight exterior colour choices with the introduction of 'Blaze Red' to the lineup.
