All roads lead to China for luxury car makers

As the Chinese market is growing so rapidly the Beijing Motor Show has become popular with manufacturers debuting luxury models.

The country's demand for premium cars is increasing, especially for unique and ultra-luxury vehicles, says Auto Express.

Models such as the long-wheelbase BMW 3 Series are being offered for the Chinese market only while Rolls-Royce sold a record number of cars last year in the region.

So this makes the Beijing Motor Show, which started this week and runs until May 2, ideal to debut cars such as the new Lamborghini SUV. The newcomer - known as the Urus - reportedly boasts 600bhp, and will compete with the recently unveiled Bentley SUV.

Audi is to show a concept RS version of the Q3. The RS badge is for only the quickest Audis, and this is no exception, with a five-cylinder 2.5-litre turbocharged engine out of the TT RS giving 360bhp and 0-62mph in 5.2 secs.

The Citroen Numero 9 concept will also debut at Beijing, creating a new flagship to the DS range. The Numero 9 concept previews one of three new Citroen models, which could include a new small saloon and an SUV solely focused at the Chinese market.

MG is showing the Icon concept, which rivals the Nissan Juke, while also on show will be the Porsche Cayenne GTS. It will be the most driver-focused version of the SUV, sitting 24mm lower than standard and with a leather and Alcantara-trimmed interior, usually seen in track-focused versions of the 911.
