Mediaworks has been tipped to announce oOh! Media chairman Michael Anderson as incoming chief executive in the next few day, says the Australian Financial Review.
Former chief executive Mark Weldon resigned twelve weeks ago citing personal reasons, after a year of upheaval in the company that saw many of its senior staff leave.
Anderson has an extensive history in the media industry, having spent eight years as chief executive of Australian FM radio group Austereo, and the pervious 13 years as senior executive.
He is also a current board member of Fairfax Media - a position he will most likely have to step down from if he is to take up the role at Mediaworks.
Anderson would be well known to Mediaworks board member Jack Matthews. Anderson was on the board of Fairfax Media at the time that Matthews was chief executive of Fairfax Digital.
Mediaworks has been under significant pressure in the last year with chief executive Mark Weldon resigning just five days after long-time veteran Hilary Barry resigned.
A string of long-time TV3 personalities have left under Weldon's watch.
John Campbell, Hamish McKay, Paula Penfold - wife of Barry's co-presenter Mike McRoberts - and the rest of the 3D investigative journalism team, including Melanie Reid, Phil Vine, Eugene Bingham and Sarah Hall had all left or announced their departures at the time Weldon resigned.
A Mediaworks spokesperson said the search process for a new chief executive was "ongoing" and they were not at liberty to comment on candidates.
