Seven months ago I was elected to Council, a role I don't think anyone can be totally prepared for.
Prior to this I was raising my family, providing a home for foster children and growing my business in the hair and beauty industry. My passion is seeing individuals and communities grow economically and personally, and my vision for my business is to create a culture and place of excellence.
My portfolio is Rural and Villages, with a supporting role for CBD and Retail. I'm comfortable with both these sectors and understand their place in our region.
Rural and Villages is made up primarily of Bunnythorpe, Longburn and Ashhurst. All these areas are growing with easy living and affordable houses. But while they're similar in many ways, they have their own aspirations and needs. From Fluoride in the water supply, markings on roundabouts, speed limits around schools, safe walking tracks, and community centres, they all want to be listened to and taken seriously.
CBD and retail is my cup of tea as I live and breathe it daily. I've worked in the city for 37 years and owned my business on George St for 14. Broadway Ave is the heart of our city but it's had a hard time over the years.
This is going to change, with budgets in place and ongoing opportunities for consultation. I know the cost can be off putting, but as the saying goes, you have to spend it to make it. Change can be hard but, it usually means growth.
I've just experienced my first consultation process for the Annual Budget.
It was enlightening hearing from the public about what matters to them. We live in an amazing city with huge potential and I urge you to engage with Council. Use the website, read Square Circular, search out what's happening and please feel free to speak with me anytime.
I'm here to listen.
