Gothika is a dark thriller, but the movie has had a happy ending for actor Robert Downey jnr: he met his fiancee on the set in Montreal.
Susan Levin was a producer on the film, in which Downey co-stars with Halle Berry and Penelope Cruz.
"She's smarter. I like that," the 38-year-old actor said during an interview on The Ellen DeGeneres Show in the United States.
"I thought, 'Oh this is great ... but she's the producer and I'm working here,"' Downey said.
"But anyway, the point is we got to know each other, we really got to know each other as you tend to on location and not in that 'Gross, you're on location, you're supposed to do something dysfunctional and sleep with the producer' [way]. I did that, but it was different."
Downey said he and Levin had not set a wedding date. But they planned to spend Thanksgiving with her family.
"I'll be going to Palm Springs and I won't be getting arrested while I'm there," he joked, referring to his November 2000 arrest for drug possession at a Palm Springs resort.
A judge dismissed the charges last year after determining that Downey had stayed clean and sober for 14 months.
Bad guy Baldwin
Some leading men would baulk at playing a goofy villain in a family film, but actor Alec Baldwin says he loved being bad in his latest role.
In Dr Seuss' The Cat in the Hat, the actor stars as the potbellied Larry Quinn, vile boyfriend of some bored siblings' mother and foil to Mike Myers' mischievous feline.
It's a role Baldwin relished.
"It was more fun than I've had working on any other movie I've done. Bar none," Baldwin said.
The actor is better known for his dramatic turns in such films as The Hunt for Red October and Glengarry Glen Ross.
Lennon art on show
More than 100 paintings, doodles, caricatures and drawings by former Beatle John Lennon have gone on sale in a show in Avon, Connecticut.
Lennon's artwork explores the joys of fatherhood, sex, ageing and life.
The display, titled Come Together, includes children's illustrations such as cartoonish animals Lennon drew for his son, Sean.
Also for sale were handwritten lyrics to songs including Imagine, listed at US$2350 ($3700).
There is also erotica involving Lennon and Yoko Ono, in an exhibit first displayed in London in 1970 and shut down by police.
Pumped-up Cruise
Tom Cruise pumped iron for his role in the movie The Last Samurai, putting on 12kg of rock-hard muscle, he told French film magazine Studio.
The 41-year-old also learned Japanese for the role.
Cruise said he leads a "nomadic existence". "I live with my sister, her children and mine," Cruise said. "We're on the road very often."
He has two children, a boy and a girl he adopted with ex-wife Nicole Kidman.
