Canadian twins Tegan and Sara have the ear of Ryan Adams and are signed to Neil Young's Vapor label. Their If It Was You shows they come out the post-punk (and slightly pre-menstrual) folk school to deliver snotty, snarling pop-rock which must have shocked a few at Lilith Fair gigs.

"There's more to life than love and being together" is the catchy chorus on You Went Away; pop hooks sprout all over Monday Monday Monday ("your house or mine, I don't really care about it any more"); and the spirit of the Velvet Underground and Nirvana are blended with sassiness and ennui ("I am disappointed every morning that I wake up"). With gritty guitars, some folk foundations and heaps of attitude. Terrific.
