Review: Russell Baillie

This soundtrack to the forthcoming Kiwi flick could have always gone out under a name like The Best Westie Album in the World Ever! Especially care of its chestnuts from the back of the Savage family's record crate like Joe Walsh's Rocky Mountain Way, Peter Frampton's talkin'-guitar Do You Feel Like I Do and Baby I Love Your Way, David Essex's Rock On as well as similarly era-defining Kiwi nuggets like Sharon O'Neill's spa pool anthem Asian Paradise, Hello Sailor's Lying in the Sand and Citizen Band's Rust In My Car.

But there are also three tracks each from nouveau bogan-rockers HLAH and from loungecore outfit Dean Savage (the band led by the film's director, Mark Beesley) with a potential song-from-the-film-crossover-hit in a new feelers track, As Good As It Gets.

"Contains irresponsible behaviour associated with alcohol" is the rider on the recently re-rated film and this smartly constructed soundtrack is enough to inspire just that, all by itself.
