A new documentary, Diana, Our Mother: Her Life and Legacy, airs in New Zealand this week and celebrates the life and work of Princess Diana in the 20th year since her tragic death.
The film marks the first time Princes William and Harry have spoken openly about their mother in a personal capacity, detailing fond childhood memories and the many ways she has shaped their adult lives.
Made by Oxford Film and Television and screening on Three this Tuesday, the film's executive producer Nick Kent says: "This film will show Princess Diana in a way she has never been seen before, through the eyes of the two people who knew her best."
The 90-minute documentary includes never seen before photographs of Diana and the boys, taken from an album their mother assembled before she passed away.
The brothers are filmed looking through the album and recalling special moments from their childhoods.
As William pauses on a photo where he is being held by Diana, he reveals to Harry that there's much more to the image than meets the eye: "Believe it or not, you and I are both in this photograph, you're in the tummy."
The brothers also share some of their earliest memories of Diana through to the final contact they had with her before her tragic death two decades ago.
William recalls his mother's great sense of humour: "She was very informal and really enjoyed the laughter and the fun."
And in a touching moment, Harry describes his mum as "the best mum in the world": "She was our mum. She still is our mum. And of course, as a son I would say this, she was the best mum in the world. She smothered us with love, that's for sure."
The documentary also reveals William's efforts to keep his mother's memory alive as he raises his own children and includes contributions and memoirs from the Princess' family and famous friends, several of whom have never spoken publicly about her before.
Watch Diana, Our Mother: Her Life and Legacy on Tuesday July 25 at 8.30pm on Three.
