These days a holiday romance is merely a swipe away, thanks to the wonder of modern technology.
Dating app Tinder has calculated the top 15 cities to romance the locals, with London revealed as the number one spot, followed by Paris and New York, the Daily Mail reported.
Even New Zealand got a slice of the action, with Auckland making the list at number 13, unfortunately bettered by Sydney at 8th and Melbourne at 11th.
Passport, a paid feature on the Tinder app, lets subscribers match and chat with users in other cities, without physically being there.
The feature is used to set up dates in a city before you arrive, with keen tourists able to "pin drop" their location anywhere in the world.
Tinder measured the top destinations entered in the Passport feature to calculate its list.
Other popular cities visited from afar included Berlin, Moscow, Stockholm, Rio de Janeiro, Sydney, Barcelona, Buenos Aires, Melbourne LA, Auckland and Dublin.
However, the feature is not always used for romantic purposes. Some savvy travellers use it as a virtual travel guide, picking up tips from local residents.
Rio de Janeiro reportedly experienced a 10 per cent spike in users as the Olympics near.
