Christchurch gym City Fitness might have just put a ban on selfies, but taking a snap of yourself pre, mid or post workout has long been a popular pastime on social media.

The gym said the selfie ban was put in place after some members were less than impressed to see their sweaty mugs turning up in the background of other people's online pics.

However, one brave gym-goer has already flouted the ban, and we're willing to bet he won't be the only one.

Judging by Instagram, the gym selfie isn't going away anytime soon, with thousands of pics showing up online of people who are more than happy to pose for a quick snap in their workout gear.
