A mother outraged by a comment made about her daughter's injuries from a fellow student has taken to Facebook to air her concerns.
When Merrit Smith took her 4-year-old daughter for stitches after she was hit by a boy in her class, a staff member at the hospital told the girl, "I bet he likes you."
Smith was enraged by the comment and posted a picture to Facebook with the following message, saying the 'hurting is flirting' stance makes an excuse for unacceptable behaviour.
"I will not allow that message to be ok. I will not allow it to be louder than "That's not how we show we like each other.", wrote the mother from Ohio.
The post has been shared over 30,000 times and received hundreds of supportive comments such as:
"The older generation in my family used to say they were love taps! Def not! Love & bruises do not belong together..."
Merrit has since commented saying she did not want to implicate the child involved and hopes her message can encourage other parents when dealing with similar situations.
