Rating:
First drinks were espresso martinis, chosen from the brief list (three options only) of blackboard specials. It was a mediocre take on the popular drink. We switched to wine thereafter.
The vibe is relaxed and welcoming. Once a favourite late-night haunt, Tabac has undergone a refurbishment to lighten and brighten the back alley bar. It now sports an open-air front deck and is somewhere you can be seen in daylight.
The toilets are reminiscent of school loos. When we visited, the doors had been pinned open, which made it tricky to tell which was the ladies and which the mens. Unfortunately, we didn't realise we had the wrong one until we walked in on a man at the urinal. Less than ideal.
On the stereo An easy mix of old school folk rock and funk.
Room for improvement With the spruced up interior, progress has been made. But the menu needs refining and the prices are a bit steep compared to neighbouring bars.
Most redeeming feature The staff are cool and bring an easy vibe to the bar. And you get complimentary chips and salsa with your drinks.
