McDonald's New Zealand says there is no such thing as a 'secret menu' down under, refuting a claim made by an overseas McDonald's employee during a recent Ask Me Anything on Reddit.
"However, customers have always been able to customise their burgers," a McDonald's New Zealand spokeswoman told the Herald Online.
The unnamed overseas employee, believed to be a manager at a McDonald's in Glasgow, Scotland, offered the following secret menu advice:
"You can order from the 'Secret Menu'. Just like with any of our sandwiches, you can add, remove or change ingredients by special request. These are called 'grill orders' (i.e. Big Mac no pickle).
"The items on the 'secret menu' weren't invented by anyone officially at McDonald's, it's just a random persons guide to burgers you could potentially 'hack' at McDonald's.
"Order one and the workers might not know it by name (i.e. Land, Air and Sea burger or the McGangBang) but if you explain what it is, and are willing to pay for all the ingredients, it's just another 'grill order' that we can make up.
"DON'T order... the grilled chicken. It's horrible frozen chicken that we defrost and steam and it's a bit gelatinous."
McDonald's New Zealand's spokeswoman said that the grilled chicken in New Zealand was 100 per cent chicken breast supplied by Tegel.
News of the secret menu first emerged last year when the website Hack The Menu revealed several ways customers could enhance their meals.
The secret menu includes such items as the Monster Mac and the McGangBang sees existing McDonald's ingredients fused into a whole new recipe.
McDonald's denied the claims made on Reddit, saying: "There is no secret menu at McDonald's UK."
