I love to brighten up the house with pretty posies of seasonal spring blooms. I spoke to the botanical brains at one of the city's most well-loved florists, Flowers on Franklin, to find out their favourite flowers at this time of year.
1: Peonies
Number one is the popular peony, a favourite of all florists. Most delightful in corals and pinks, peonies are extra special because they are only available for a very short season. One of the queens of the floral world.

2: Roses

Always a classic - you can't go wrong with a rose for every occasion. A deep, dark, velvety red bunch is a firm favourite, but a pretty pale pink bouquet is a perfect expression of spring.
3: Tulips
These bulbous beauties are available in a massive array of colours and varieties, say our friends at Flowers on Franklin. The florists recommend parrot tulips for their frilly petals and vibrant colours. "Still life prints come to mind."

4: Snap dragons
I've always had a soft spot for these cute country garden flowers. The staff at Flowers on Franklin love the way they look en masse in giant farmhouse jugs around the house. Spring in a vase.

5: Freesia
It's the gorgeous aroma of freesias that make these flowers stand-out. Freesias are typically found in white or yellow, and the team at Flowers on Franklin say their fragrance tends to evoke a memory for everyone.
