Dozens of hopeful models turned out to the Albany shopping mall, keen to be the next big thing on the runway.

The 2013 Girlfriend Model Search - in association with Rimmel London and modelling agency Red11 - saw droves of teenage girls arrive at Westfield Albany.

Make-up artists glammed them up as photo shoots took place and judges chatted with giggling teens.

Orewa teenager Jeanie May was out shopping with a friend when a scout approached them.

"We were just there shopping - we didn't know that was going on at the mall. The woman said we should try out because we had a good chance."

It was the second time the 14-year-old had been approached by a model scout.

"The last time I was spotted was in town outside the Langham - when I was stalking Justin Bieber last year," she laughed.

"Mum didn't really want me to do it, so we said no. But she's okay with it this time."

Jeanie, a lifeguard at Orewa Beach and a keen netballer, said she would love to do modelling.

Twenty-five regional finalists will be picked before five finalists are chosen. The winner will appear in the June issue of Girlfriend magazine.
