These wintry days are just made for sheltering in and lingering longer over breakfast in a cosy cafe. Here's some brilliant breakfast dishes to warm you up:

1. Mince on toasted Turkish flat bread, $16.50, at Gala Cafe, Zone 23, Unit G08, 23 Edwin St, Mt Eden. (Hard to find but worth it when you do.)

2. Dill potatoes with watercress, garlic yoghurt and burnt sage butter and a poached egg on top, $18.50, at Landreth & Co, 272 Ponsonby Rd.

3. Congee - rice porridge with organic caramelised bananas, coconut milk and cinnamon, $11, at Kokako Cafe 537 Great North Rd, Grey Lynn PO.

4. Classic devilled kidneys with slow roasted onions, spinach and sourdough, $21.50, at Cafe on Kohi, 237 Tamaki Drive, Kohimarama.
