The book I love most is ... The favourite book I own is a 1909 copy of Oscar Wilde's Salome in French, on hand-made paper with cut pages, which I bought as a starry-eyed teenager for about $2. I can't read it, but I do love it.

The book I'm reading right now is ... Swottily, the collected works of Isabella Bird. She is one of the characters I play in Top Girls, an Englishwoman who travelled intrepidly and extensively through many countries off the beaten track in the late 1800s.

The book I'd like to read next is ... 1Q84 by Haruki Murakami is waiting till I have finished with Isabella. I will also be reading David Walliams' latest, Gangsta Granny (I'll let the kids read it when I'm finished, of course).

My favourite bookshop is ... As a teenager growing up in the 80s, Christchurch's Smith's second-hand bookstore was a treasure trove of cool and kooky books. These days I am very fond of Dear Reader in West Lynn, Auckland.

The book that changed me is ... I couldn't name a favourite book I have read that is forever changing. Every one a bit I think.

The book I wish I'd never read ... None, I'm just annoyed at things I've started and not been able to get through. One day Moby Dick, one day!

* Actress Bronwyn Bradley stars in Top Girls at Auckland's Q Theatre until March 17.
