Payout over Notorious B.I.G killing

A judge has ordered the city of Los Angeles to pay $US1.1 million ($1.6 million) in legal costs to the family of murdered rapper Notorious B.I.G, as punishment for withholdingevidence during the family's civil lawsuit trial.

Christopher Wallace, or Notorious B.I.G, was shot dead in 1997. The killing has not been solved.

Judge Florence-Marie Cooper declared a mistrial last year in the family's civil lawsuit after finding that a police detective hid statements linking the killing to two former LAPD officers. A retrial is to begin this year.
