The menu sounded super fresh and this was enhanced by the visual delights lined up in the glass cabinets at the counter. The inclusion of a gym-goers' breakfast (egg white omelette with gluten-free bread for $13.50 or with smoked salmon or bacon for $17), is something we're starting to see as standard with the clean eating movement. It was hard to pick a plate, a sign of a good line-up.

The look was big and sunny and welcoming. We were warmly greeted as we walked in from the ripped-up pavement out the front of this Newmarket eatery. I loved being able to poke around all the artisan fare - the chutneys, vinegars, teas and homeware as we waited for our food. However, a trip to the loo lost a point for me, it was a bit of a mess considering it was early in the morning and not very busy.

The food came to our table with great haste. I opted for the unusual black sticky rice with banana, red papaya and coconut yoghurt ($14.50). It was tasty but it needed a bit more fruit and yoghurt to balance the rice. I ordered a side of tropical salad, which added the texture I was longing for.

My companion went for the super-scrumptious spinach and corn hotcakes ($16.50).

The coffee did the trick for me. The latte was just how I like it, the right amount of foam and flavour. It was perfect with a delightfully chewy Anzac cookie.

The service was really smiley and helpful counter service. We were offered suggestions, feedback and didn't feel rushed as we stood at the counter for what felt like too long, reading the menu.

Overall this was a happy space to find some sun during the cooler months. A few little niggles but nothing to keep me away. Next time I'd go for a coffee and sandwich while picking out gifts from the retail side of the store.
