Chorus has been named as a top employer for 2015, with chief executive Mark Ratcliffe saying a strong company culture and a high level of employee engagement was behind the win.
The telecommunications company was the first New Zealand company to win the supreme award at the Aon Hewitt Best of the Best awards in Sydney this week, beating out ten other finalists from around New Zealand and Australia.
Ratcliffe said the award was validation of the company's work over the last few years.
"It's a very proud moment for Chorus," Ratcliffe said.
"Though we won the Best of the Best award this year, I feel the award is recognition of our efforts since Chorus was first formed."
This is the fourth consecutive year that the company has been recognised as a best employer with employee engagement at 82 per cent for 2015, something Ratcliffe attributed to continuous small actions as opposed to introducing any major new initiatives in the company.
Aon Hewitt New Zealand and Australia employee engagement lead Stephen Hickey, said Chorus had attained the highest level of employer excellence.
"Best Employers have to consistently demonstrate excellence," Hickey said.
"In employee engagement, leadership effectiveness, high performance culture, and their employment brand and Chorus has attained the highest level of excellence overall.".
Frucor Beverages New Zealand, Z Energy, Microsoft New Zealand and FedEx Express New Zealand were also recognised as top employers out of the more than 150 companies competing for the awards.
