Kiwi stars in London took to Twitter to rave about the opening ceremony.

Flight of the Conchords funnyman Rhys Darby toasted the opener with a glass of wine and some nibbles.

"Well here I am ... down at @KiwiHouse2012 eating dips and drinking sauvignon blanc. Ready for the opening ceremony!"

He added: "Too brilliant! Bond & the Queen!! Top night all round. Well done GB ... now lets see you try and beat us at ladies shotput."

Whangarei-born country music singer Keith Urban was in the stadium with his Hollywood A-list wife Nicole Kidman: "Nic and I are at the @London2012 @NBCOlympics opening ceremonies ... OVER THE TOP!!!!"

Crowded House veteran Neil Finn commented: "NZ has a very relaxed attitude to the Olympics. We encourage the athletes to have a good time all the time. The results speak for themselves."
