Firefighters have managed to bring a blaze at the old Greenlane Railway Station in Auckland under control. However, they were not alerted in time to avert serious damage to the structure.
Spokeswoman Megan Ruru says calls from worried locals started coming in at 2.30 this morning. She says the station was well alight when appliances arrived and back-ups were called to help.
Police and Fire Safety Officers are at the scene investigating the cause of the blaze.
