Four students from Waiopehu College experienced fine dining as part of a Dine Academy held during the Term 1 holidays.
Maya Machuca, Amber Graham, Tiana Thomas and Chantelle Cundy took part in a week's boot camp-style event at Westpac Stadium learning everything they needed to know about working in the hospitality industry, including watching the Copthorne Hotel executive chef in action and enjoying a three-course meal.
The training led up to working at a live event - the Hurricanes verses Stormers game - where Amber and Maya chose to work as chefs while Chantelle and Tiana experienced the retail side of the business, joining 40 other students from around the Wellington region.
The girls will be offered paid work at the Stadium during the year.
However, their experience will be put to the real test when they join a team preparing and serving a five-course meal to 200 paying guests at a DINE Dinner held in the Banquet Hall at Parliament in August.
