When you're trying to lose weight, it can sometimes feel like you've gone years without indulging in a piece of cake or a takeaway.
And you're not altogether wrong - because a woman will spend more than three years on a diet by the time she's 30, according to a survey.
The average female dieter will have spent 168 weeks trying to lose weight between the ages of 18 and 30.
By the time they reach 40, this rockets to just under six years, or 308 weeks. The average woman diets twice a year, and loses 1.8 kilograms each time.
It means she will have lost a staggering 14 stone by the time she turns 30. And by 40 she will have lost 25 stone.
The peak age for dieting is 33 due to the effects of motherhood and the fear of middle-age spread, with women over 40 becoming the most comfortable with their figures.
Putting on more weight than a close friend or sister was the main incentive for trying to shed a few pounds, found the survey of 1,000 women by weight loss company Forza Supplements.
This was followed by seeing how you looked in shop mirrors while undressing in the changing room.
The end of a relationship was the third most popular reason, with 57 per cent of women saying this would inspire them to lose weight to look more attractive. Being embarrassed by their weight in holiday photos was also a big factor.
