Hastings Boys' High School's 1st XI has scored 17 unanswered goals in the Hawke's Bay's men's club competition.
Newcomers Lindisfarne College were beaten 9-0 at the weekend, a week after an 8-0 first-round win against City United. While both teams were missing players, Hastings Boys' superior depth was a key factor in the victory.
Hastings Boys' boast two Central Districts under-21 players and eight Hawke's Bay under-18 players. They dominated possession and territory in the first 15 minutes but Lindisfarne's defence functioned well during this period.
However a hat-trick from CD under-21 forward Dylan Thomas and goals from Hawke's Bay under-18 players Joshua Wray and Mitchell Bradley had Hastings Boys' ahead 5-0 at halftime.
Thomas scored his fourth goal in the second half, in which fellow CD under-21 rep Jake Webber and Bay under-18 reps Logan Gill and Tully Gilbert also scored. The Hastings Boys' coaches were pleased with the superb defensive effort, particularly from Lee Phillips and Nicholas Rogers-Rehn.
They were also impressed with the discipline their players displayed and the fact they didn't attract any warning cards from the umpires.
