Australia continues to be a happy hunting ground for Hawke's Bay's national under-12 tennis champion Finn Reynolds.
Two months after becoming the first Kiwi to win the Australian 12-and-under Spring Nationals title in Sydney, Reynolds (pictured) was unbeaten as the New Zealand team won the 12-and-under Australian teams title in Melbourne at the weekend. The top-seeded Kiwis were unbeaten in pool play and beat second seeds Victoria 2-0 in the final of the Melbourne Park-hosted event staged as part of the Tennis Australia December Showdown.
Reynolds played No2 for the Kiwi team, which included Northern's Macsen Sisam and Aucklander Liam Stoica. Sisam was first on court in the final and beat Greg Polmans 6-3, 6-2.
Reynolds took the court knowing a win would secure the Rod Laver Trophy. He won his first set against Codey Gunn 6-1 and dropped the second 6-3. However he displayed the benefits of his recent play in Hawke's Bay's premier men's competition by taking out the third set 7-6.
In the individual section, Reynolds has progressed through the first round in both singles and doubles play.
