Drama in the boys' and girls' 12-and-under grade was a feature of the Napier Harrier Club's road race championships at Westshore on Saturday.
The first two boys in the 2.4km race ran off course and this allowed Oliver Marshall to take the victory from Kingston Webb and Adam Barron. Zara Keighley retained her girls' title ahead of Danielle Stephenson and Susannah Christison.
These runners were among 50 competitors throughout the grades. The cubs grade saw six youngsters compete over 800m with Tyler Annand taking first place from Stella Marshall and Andre Allan-Wright filling the respective second and third placings.
Kaya Shlomi won the girls' 14-and-under grade's 5km race while Annie Creagh won the under-19 girls' title.
Laura Langley won the under-16 girls' 5km race from Louise Hancock and Jodi Nagel.
Bradley Christison broke the club record for this circuit by two seconds in the under-14 boys' 5km race in 18m 2s. His brother Shamus took out the under-16 boys' title.
Renee Holton won the senior women's 5km race from Keiko Hashiba and third placegetter Louisa Salis-Soglio.
Corinna Alexander took out the masters women's 5km race from former Hawke's Bay hockey representative Marilyn Brown and Kim Creagh.
James Bell took out the senior men's 10km race while Craig Mathers won the masters' grade.
