College sport: Lindisfarne show upper hand

The 56th annual winter sports exchange with Wanganui Collegiate was held at Lindisfarne College on Wednesday, August 15.

Wanganui fronted nine teams consisting of three soccer, four rugby and two hockey sides.

Although this exchange is traditionally a close fought and tough competition, this would not be the case for 2012.

Our soccer and rugby teams were unbeaten with some impressive scores.

In soccer, the 1st XI won the Peterson Family shield 8-2, 2nd XI won 2-0 and the Junior A team finished it off with a 5-3 win.

In rugby, the under-15 team started the day with an impressive 101-0 win, followed by the under-16s winning 29-0 then the 2nd XV winning 43-5. The First XV won the Peter Butler Shield for the third consecutive year with a 38-10 win while also securing first place in the Central North Island Tournament.

Our hockey teams were more evenly matched with the 1st XI going down 1-2 and the Colts A winning 4-0.

A very satisfying set of results for the college winning the overall exchange 8-2.

A big thank you to Mr Francis, our director of sport, and the coaches and managers of all the teams for organising the exchange. - Matthew Taylor
